20140211 Membrana – Mr. Paul Peterson & Mr. Jürgen Schneider - Gas Transfer in Liquids using Hydrophobic Microporous Membrane Contactors

Membrane is a multinational, part of the Polypore company, and has two main divisions Healthcare and Membrana Filtration covering Degasification, Gasification, Debubbling and Liquid Filtration. Membrana gave an overview of the different types of Liqui-Cel membrane contactors made from PTFE, PP and Polyolefine membranes and different housing materials, module build-up with hollow fibre arrays, baffled and non-baffled configurations and fat Micro-module. The system design was explained with performance data, illustrated with case studies.

Applications are O2 from de-ionized water, CO2 removal to extend IX beds and improve EDI, degas to improve megasonic cleaning, N2 from N2 blanketed storage, VOC removal, humidification of gases, degassing or debubbling inks and photographic or coating emulsions, (de-)carbonation nitrogenation of beverages and off-shore injection water.

Main message is that these membrane contactors reduce total cost in the conventional systems with a more sustainable operation. www.liqui-cel.com
