20160419 TU Dortmund - Mr. Matthias Wierschem - Ultrasound-Assisted Enzymatically Catalysed Transesterification for Reactive Distillation Processes

The faculty of Bio- and Chemical Engineering of the TU Dortmund develops this US-ERD process with very selective enzymes immobilised in porous beads or as coating on structured packing moving from batch to continuous aiming at much higher reaction velocity and less by-products. With enzymes single enantiomers are produced. The ultrasound transducers increase investment considerably, but US enables faster reaction, reducing equipment sizes which neutralises the extra investment. The RD concept shifts the reaction to the right.

The ERD process model coincides well with experimental values. The concept is feasible. www.th.bci.tu-dortmund.de
