20140211 ECN – Mr. Jaap Vente – Hybsi Membranes in processes, Status and Outlook

ECN Energy Research Centre of The Netherlands mission is to develop knowledge and technology, that enable a transition to a sustainable energy system. In the field of Energy Efficiency the Hybsi pervaporation membrane was developed and is commercialised by licensees Pervatech (NL) and CTI (F).

The basic feature of Hybsi is the substitution of part of the silica oxygen by organic chains. This makes the membrane chemically and thermally resistant in a wide range of aggressive environments. ECN builds upon this feature in steering the selectivity for different gas-liquid mixtures (H2, N2, CO2, CO, CH4, He, H2O, organics), hydrophobicity and developing polymer supported hybrid silica membranes. www.hybsi.com
