20140617 Drystill Inc. (Can.) - Mr. Ian MacGregor – “Pass-Through Distillation, first results”

Drystill’s sister company Fielding operates the largest solvent recovery plant in Canada. Several of the technologies used there (pervaporation, Stripper Absorber Module) are owned by Drystill. This SAM is the heart of the pass-through distillation pilot unit. The principle is to place a water absorbing fluid between the evaporating phase and the condensing phase, while transported by a gas. This enables separated process conditions in the evaporating and the condensing phase with low distillation temperatures when vacuum applied.

Fielding incorporated this principle at the permeate side of a pervaporation unit reducing deep cooling. The SAM with very short heat and mass transfer distances makes this possible. Design calculations were presented. www.fieldchem.com
