The start-up company HeatMatrix developed a low fouling, light, corrosion and heat resistant plastic heat exchanger for gaseous waste streams: HMX. One step heat exchanger improves energy efficiency by 5%. It features a counter current matrix lay-out.

In this NL GUTS supported validation project the HMX was tested in flue gases of around 160°C with ambient air cooling down to 100°C. Pressure drop was around 5,5 mbar, without loss of functionalities and integrity.

In the second test cooling was with fouling process air. Process was stable but with fouling at process air side and 6 mbar drop. In situ cleaning was effective. Estimated payback time for recovering 50% of lost heat is 1,5 years. www.heatmatrixgroup.com
