20150915 Technical University Delft - Mrs. Silvia Pirrung-“Affinity separations by process modelling/ synthesis”

The Bioprocess Engineering group of TUD works on process modelling and process synthesis for affinity separations and specifically high throughput downstream processes defining the ‘best’ combination of unit operations to isolate and purify a compound. Starting from chemical and physical properties, process and equipment boundaries, the PSE exercise is reduced by importing experimental chromatographic data, generated specifically for this purpose, into the process modeling. Good correspondence between predicted and experimental values supports sizing of the chromatography equipment and economic evaluation of a set of options, defined with input of professionals expertise.

The approach was illustrated with a case study and seems applicable for other unit operations. http://www.tnw.tudelft.nl/nl/over-faculteit/afdelingen/biotechnology/research-groups/bioprocess-engineering
