20160913 BODEC – Mr. René Houben - “Early Adopter Project Results: Direct adsorption from complex streams with Cadans”

With the Cadans pilot installation available from a former ISPT project Bodec together with NL GUTS members Avebe and Cosun verified if the perceived advantages of the Two Moving Bed (TMB) as alternative for a packed bed are real. In a TMB the resin is in constant movement, operated in three reactors in counter current setting. Hydrocyclones separate the resins from the liquid.

Avebe focuses on removing glycol-alkaloids and Cosun on recovering proteins. Several resins (adsorption isotherms) and process conditions were tested. Both adsorption and desorption work. Desorption efficiency as with packed bed. Short contact time is feasible.

Pilot unit shows process limitations to be solved prior to physical modification to establish scale-up. Cadans is promising. www.bodec.nl
